Joan Porcaro, RN, BSN, MM, CPHRM, FASHRM

Joan has served at the system level supporting risk management and patient relations. With a team of risk managers, risk management specialists, patient relations coordinators, and variance specialists the team was dedicated to support a several regional and national multistate hospital organization comprised of acute care and critical access hospitals, physician practices, behavioral health, urgent care, long term care, cancer treatment, home health and hospice. Joan has over 30 years of experience as a risk management professional. She also has experience as an operational leader in acute care, home health, hospice, and physician practice settings. Joan joined Willis Towers Watson in 2022. Her responsibilities include providing support and resources to healthcare clients to assist them in better managing and reducing their risks. Joan is a graduate of St. Xavier University in Illinois with a RN, BSN and also holds a master’s in management from University of Phoenix. She is a Certified Professional Risk Manager (CPHRM)through the American Hospital Association. Joan has served on several committees as leader and member for the national professional risk management organization - American Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM). She is a frequent author and speaker for many industry communications and events and is currently an adjunct professor for Texas Tech University. 

Judy Klein, BS, PA, CPHRM, FASHRM

Judy has more than 30 years of experience working as a physician assistant and risk manager as well as working in professional liability insurance. Judy’s clinical experience includes practicing as a physician assistant in both hospitals and office practices and working in a large tertiary care facility as a risk manager. Judy has extensive experience working formal practice insurance carriers in risk management, claims, and business development. Her experience includes serving as a manager, developing a risk management program, directing a department, and working closely with insured clients. Judy contributes to risk management publications and is a well-recognized speaker in the industry. She is passionate about presenting on emerging risk management and patient safety topics. Judy has presented at the regional, state, and national level for various organizations, including state hospital and medical associations, rural health associations, and various professional organizations (e.g., the American Society for HealthCare Risk Management [ASHRM] and affiliated chapters, the Medical Professional Liability Association, and the Hospital Insurance Forum [HIF]). Judy holds a bachelor of science degree in medical science from Alderson-Broaddus University, and she is a certified professional in healthcare risk management (CPHRM) and an ASHRM Fellow. She is past president of the Indiana Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ISHRM) and the Ohio Society of Healthcare Risk Management (OSHRM) as well as a board member on the Ohio Patient Safety Institute. She has served on various ASHRM committees and on the education committee for HIF, and she is a member of OSHRM, ISHRM, and ASHRM. Judy currently works in Risk Management for MedPro Group, a professional liability insurance company.
