An allegation of abuse made by a patient against a care team member can be frightening, unsettling and disruptive for the person making the allegation, the care team member, and the organization. In addition, such an allegation of abuse can create the perfect storm resulting in a regulatory finding, criminal actions and possibly a civil suit. This presentation discusses the key elements of a prevention plan, reviews how to best provide for an organizational response should an allegation occur and discusses the insurance implications for such an incident. This meeting has been approved for 1 contact hour of Continuing Education Credit toward fulfillment of the requirements of ASHRM designations of FASHRM (Fellow) and DFASHRM (Distinguished Fellow) and towards CPHRM renewal.
