Shannon Kooker, MSN, RN, CPPS, CIC, CPHQ, FAPIC
Shannon currently serves as the Executive Director of ECRI’s Total Systems Safety. With a clinical background in adult critical care nursing, Shannon specializes in infection prevention, patient safety and healthcare quality improvement. She currently sits on the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety.
She has authored a book and published several articles that focus on the importance of infection prevention and patient safety. In 2016, Shannon was honored with the APIC Heroes of Infection Prevention Award.
Shannon has served in the United States Air Force and leads ECRI’s SALUTE Program. Shannon is certified in just culture, patient safety, infection control, healthcare quality, as a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer and High Reliability coach. She received her BSN from theUniversity of Southern Maine, her MSN from Walden University, and in 2020 was designated by APIC as a fellow in infection prevention (FAPIC).
Description
This educational program is designed to strengthen safety culture within healthcare organizations by promoting open communication, accountability, and vigilance. It explores leadership strategies to empower staff to report concerns related to sexual abuse and misconduct. Participants gain practical tools to foster an environment where every team member feels responsible for and supported in speaking up when risks are identified. By encouraging proactive reporting and early intervention, organizations can better prevent harm and improve patient and staff outcomes. As announced on 3/12/26, this webinar directly supports the 2026 CHI Program goal of Sexual Abuse & Misconduct Prevention by equipping healthcare leaders and staff with practical approaches to recognize, report, and address concerning behaviors before harm occurs.
