In recent years, wildfires have become more frequent, larger, and burn at higher severity across the western United States and especially in California. The 2020 and 2022 fire seasons were some of the worst on record in California and included several of the largest wildfires in state history. Two CHI owners have firsthand experience with recent wildfires requiring evacuation and receiving evacuees. Eastern Plumas Health Care and Fairchild Medical Center learned valuable lessons from the Loyalton and McKinney Fires, and share helpful insight on a multitude of topics from patient safety to resource management.
